One musical that I have watched would be the musical Wicked. There were many factors that made it a spectacular performance. The cast of the show were incredibly talented; they acted very well and had amazing vocals throughout the live show. The entire play was also set up so extravagantly and the props and stage settings were also done really well. I would recommend this play for everyone to watch but I think it would be more enjoyable for people who are more interested in music and theater, as the musical would really appeal to them.

I recently watched 5 videos from the Channel News Asia website, all of which about the recent gang rape in India. A 23 year old girl in India was gang raped on a bus at night, and later flown to Singapore for treatment, and then she passed away. The incident triggered uproar of grief and anger in India, where many people were protesting against the government, saying that they had to serve justice. I think that the entire situation is terrible, and is really a pity; it teaches and reminds us all that safety cannot be taken for granted. I think the Indian government should also listen to their people and enforce laws to protect women’s rights as well.

Recently, I watched the movie, The Life of Pi. I think that the movie was really good and memorable. Although there were parts in the beginning that were slightly boring, the overall movie was really incredible and insightful. It was about a boy who had an interest in many religions, and later on in life was stuck in a boat with a tiger. He survived the encounter and it taught him a few lessons. There was a lot of value and hidden meaning to the entire movie, and it had an overall message that I think is really important and valuable. I would recommend it to everyone to watch as I think they would gain a good insight. However, I mostly recommend it to people who have more interest in religion and the belief in God, as it would definitely appeal to them, and may even be relevant to the situations they face in life and the opinions that they have.

I recently read the articles on the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. A gunman shot his mother and killed 20 children that day. There were also many stories about the principal and teachers sacrificing their live to save the school and the children. It is really sad to hear about these kinds of situations happening in the world, how children lose their lives at such a young age for no reason. I also really admire the principal and the teachers, one of whom was Ms Victoria Soto, who hid her students in a closet before getting shot by the gunman, saving those children. There were quite a few articles on those kinds of incidents and I think this particular one really opened people’s eyes.

Reading and Writing Tasks (2)

One entertainment magazine that I read quite awhile ago is Tiger Beat. Some of the titles of the articles were I Was Bullied and Steal her Style. The magazine focuses on upcoming stars and their lives, and teenagers love to follow everything that they do. The fashion articles usually appeal to the teenage girls as they love to wear the same things their idols wear. Many teenagers also go through hard times with bullies at their age, so knowing that their idols and celebrities have gone through it too, would make them feel much better as well. I think it is a very fun read, and I do enjoy reading these magazines once in awhile. I would recommend it to teenagers, but mostly girls as they are usually the ones interested in these issues.

Reading and Writing Tasks (1)

I have read a book from the famous Harry Potter series. I think that the book is very interesting and exciting. There is a lot of spell casting, friendships and rivalries, but ultimately it was about Harry Potter, a boy who lost his parents and is on an amazing journey, and has to face many challenges. I thought the book was written really well, there was a good plot, it was descriptive and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to people who have an interest in magic, fantasy and action in a sense, as the book has all of those elements.
